JUBA – Two members of the Jonglei State parliament have rejected their suspension by Governor Denay Jock Chagor, calling it a political witch-hunt.
This comes two days after Chagor who was appointed in July 2020 on the ticket of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) issued a gubernatorial decree suspending the membership of the two lawmakers in the parliament.
Anter Bayak and Gabriel Gatluak are fellow members of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance.
Gatluak said the governor has no constitutional right to suspend him because they are from different components of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance and said their suspension is related to the suspension of finance minister.
“Denay is from SSUM, and I am from FDP. The governor’s decision on my dismissal is unlawful and is related to the impeachment of the finance minister. As MPs, we are defending the state constitution and citizen rights,” he said.
For his part, Bayak said he will not respect the suspension which he referred to as a nonprocedural and the governor does not have the right to remove him.
