RUMBEK – At least two South Sudanese security forces and three armed civilians were killed on Wednesday following fighting between a joint security force accompanying the Commissioner of Cueibet County and armed civilians there, a senior state security official has said.
According to Cueibet County’s deputy police chief Emmanuel Manyang Machol, the occurred at Tiaptiap Payam of Cueibet County when a group of joint security force accompanied Cueibet county commissioner Isaiah Akhol Mathiang in order to apprehend a number of criminals who are accused of killings in the state.
“Yes, there are indeed casualties. Two soldiers and three armed youth have been killed, and two soldiers wounded. We don’t know how many youths were wounded,” Emmanuel Manyang is quoted by Radio Tamazuj as saying.
The senior state police officer further added that despite the clashes, 18 people suspected of cattle raids, road ambushes, and robberies were arrested and brought to the county headquarters.
