BOR – At least two women were killed in Jonglei state’s Duk County on Thursday morning following a road ambush by unidentified gunmen, according to Duk County Commissioner John Chatim, Radio Tamazuj reports.

Chatim said the ambush took place exactly at Wangkachuol village of Duk on Thursday morning. He said the victims who were in their 30s were travelling from Duk Pagak to Chindiir village when the incident happened.

“Those are two young women in their early 30s. They were for a visit in Chindiir Boma but unfortunately, they were killed while on the way,” he said.

“Also, yesterday (Wednesday) in Karisa village some bandits raided 38 cows after they were freed for grazing in the morning. Our youth have since been pursuing them to recover the stolen cows,” the senior local official added.

For his part, Jonglei state spokesman said they haven’t yet received any report regarding the incident and that the scene is in a remote area of Duk.

“Those areas are remotely located. So, we have yet to get a report from our long-range radio unit,” he said.
