2024 elections: Kiir’s party launches registration drive in Magwi County

Speaking during the launch of the registration drive at Freedom Square in Magwi, Eastern Equatoria State SPLM Secretary-General German Charles Ojok said membership registration for the SPLM supporters is important and urged them to preach peace among the local communities there to make it possible for the SPLM to realize peace and win 2024 elections.

JUBA – South Sudan’s ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday morning launched a registration drive for its members in Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria state.

The registration comes a few months after the party’s Secretary-General Peter Lam Both claimed that the ruling party had registered around 4 million people across the country and accused SPLA-IO commanders allied to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny of blocking their rallies in areas they control.

“This registration has a very big meaning and we need the whole population of Magwi County to be SPLM. The people of this county have a dream which no other party apart from SPLM can deliver. You have to tell people who join other parties that they have to vote for SPLM during elections to attain your dream,” he said.

“There will be no problems, no cattle raiding, no ambushes along the roads, and people will be thinking about education and improvement of roads. Everyone must register as a member of SPLM. This is the message you have to tell our people in the villages. Our people should not be deceived and you have to see the morning star to achieve our dream,” he added.

For his part, the SPLM chief whip in the Eastern Equatoria State parliament Col. Peter Otim said the group is working hard to make sure that it remains united in order to be able to deliver the promise of peace ahead of elections slated for December 2024.

“We are committed to the SPLM so we shall work day and night to ensure that we remain strong SPLM. The most important thing is that security must be put in place for this community to live in peace. If you see our children going to school, you will accept that this place is peaceful and we do not want this peace to be destroyed,” he said.
