BENTIU – At least three people including a woman have been arrested by security forces after members of a youth organization at the Bentiu Internally Displaced Persons’ camp allegedly called for the resignation of Governor Joseph Nguen Manytuil Wejang.

Speaking to Sudans Post Thursday morning, Hon. Marol Ter, member of Unity State Transitional Legislative Assembly representing Panyijiar County said the he has been informed by his constituents that three people were detained by men in SSPDF uniform at dawn on Thursday.

“The youth leadership in the [former] POC has been calling on the governor to resign or else they will go for protest.  So, they came in SSPDF uniform and picked them up at around 3:00AM in the morning today (Thursday),” Marol said.

Marol identified the detained youth members are identified as John Ja̱l Yoal, Stephen Liep Tap, and Gatwëch Majak Deng.

The lawmaker said one of the victims who is badly beaten is a woman and the woman is allegedly the wife of a youth leader who wrote a statement calling on the governor to resign and threatened to lead the youth to the youth for anti-government protest.

“One of the victims is a pregnant woman who was also beaten along with two men. This woman is the wife of the youth leader who signed the statement. These people are just youth and they have no political activities,” the lawmaker said.

In a statement separately the lawmaker called on the government of Unity State to perform well and deliver services to the people in order to avoid being rejected by the citizens.

“They are not comfortable of your governance. Do what state government should do and they will automatically rally behind you not forcing them in creating songs for Governor who is doing nothing for them,” he said.

“It’s their right to express their unsatisfactory feelings towards your poor governance. Not every young person brought up in sycophantic minds, some of them think independently,” he added, warning that the Unity State government will be responsible if anything that would happen to the detained youth.
