JUBA – At least three police officers were injured during clashes with land-grabbers in the country’s capital Juba on Thursday after authorities ordered a demolition exercise on areas that were not legally surveyed, according to police spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin.

Gen. Justin said some residents of the Gurei area refused to vacate after they have been asked by the commissioner of Juba County Charles Joseph Wani in the area which he said was surveyed illegally by the residents.

“Some locals, those chiefs were distributing land there, and then the order for the demolition came out and our forces were there to protect the engineers executing the demolition,” Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin said Friday.

“So they resisted and then fight broke out between our forces and the residents especially the chiefs who were actually distributing the land,” the police officer further said.

Daniel further told Eye Radio separately that the police authorities have arrested at least two suspects who he said are now under investigation and are due to be arranged in the court of law in the near future.
