3 wounded as fighters attack worshippers at local church in Khartoum

KHARTOUM, MAY 15, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – At least three people were wounded on Sunday morning after unidentified fighters attacked a local Church in Omdurman city of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, a source with a direct knowledge said.

According to the those who preferred not to be identified for fear of reprisal, the incident occurred at around 9:00AM when fighters in unidentified military uniform opened fire on worshipers, wounding at least three of them.

“There was an attack yesterday at around 9:15AM. Three people were wounded, and we cannot determine the attackers based on the clothes they were wearing,” he said. “They are now receiving treatment at a hospital here.”

Sudan armed forces on Sunday evening accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of attacking a local church, but Sudans Post could not independently verify the claims by the army as control of the area where the incident occurred cannot be determined.

“As an extension of its continuous violations, and its violation of all international laws and established customs, and its violation of international humanitarian law, Protocol 1 Article 53, and Protocol 2 Article 16, Rules (38-41) Cultural objects and places of worship, the rebel Rapid Support Militia fired bullets at Christian worshipers in Al-Masalamah Church in Omdurman,” the army statement said.
