JUBA – At least five innocent civilians have been killed and one other wounded when members of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and suspected Arab militias of Miseriya attacked a village just five kilometers outside Abyei town, according to the Abyei government.

The deadly attack, Abyei government spokesman Ajak Deng Miyan says, took place at Mading-Thon village on Saturday around mid-day and said it is the second attack of its kind within one month.

“Today Saturday March, 2022, at around 11.30PM, (5) innocent citizens were killed and (1) one injured in Mading-Thon Area: a distance of (5) kilometers from Abyei Town, in an attack organized by the Miseriya Militias and SAF,” Miyan said in a statement extended to Sudans Post.

“This unfortunate attack is a second of its kind within a period of one month to Mading-Thon Ares,” the statement added.

He said his government condemns that attack and urged the United Nations Interim Security Forces for Abyei (UNISFA) to boost their protection of civilian mandate to avoid similar incidents in the future and also called on the Sudanese government to stop those attacks.

“The Abyei Area Administration condemns this incident in strongest terms possible, therefore calls upon UNISFA once again, to effectively protect the civilians as per the mission’s mandate and calls as well upon the Sudan Government to immediately stop these recurrent attacks by the Miseriya Militias and SAF,” the statement said.

“Our sincere and profound Condolence to the families of the deceased ones, Ngok Dinka Community and the entire South Sudanese People,” the statement added.
