JUBA – Authorities in the disputed Abyei Administrative Area have said that at least six people have been killed and 15 others wounded following an attack by a group of armed youth from neighboring Twic County of Warrap State.
Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, one senior government official in Abyei said on condition of anonymity that the attack took place on September 25 when a group of armed men from neighboring Warrap State attacked Aneet, killing six and wounding 15 people.
“As I am speaking to you, security forces have been deployed top prevent more attacks. There are about six people who have died and around 15 people wounded after that attack by armed youth from Twic Mayardit,” the official said.
“So, the situation is becoming uncontrollable because investigation team hasn’t come up with a tangible solution to the problem between our people in Twic and Abyei. The national government must do something that will end this once and for all,” the official added.
Attack from five directions
Separately, Kelek Kon, Abyei Area’s security advisor, said the Twic youth attacked several villages on 25 September.
“The youth from Twic attacked Aneet and Agok on 25th September. They attacked these villages from five directions that is Ajak-Toch, Yaljook, MSF, Mabuny North, Mabuny South, and the direction of stores. They (Twic armed youth) killed two in Aneet fighting and one person was killed too at his house and 11 people were wounded and they were taken to Abyei for treatment,” he is quoted by Radio Tamazuj as saying.
“Abyei youth don’t attack places in Twic County instead they were always attacked by armed youth from Twic county in Warrap state,” he added.
