JUBA – A group of suspected nomadic Misseriya herders from Sudan killed at least 6 soldiers and 3 others missing when they ambushed a military base in Akoc Payam of Twic County in Warrap State of South Sudan, Twic County commissioner Deng Tong said.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Tong revealed that six soldiers including a commander were killed by Misseriya yesterday.

“It happened yesterday morning when Misseriya attacked a military base called Kur in the northern part of Akoc Payam, six soldiers were immediately killed, three went missing and two wounded,” Tong told Sudans Post reporter.

Tong said the attackers went away with 8 PKM, and a good number of powerful AK-47 machine guns.

“After the attack, the message was passed to a nearby military barrack commanded by Gatwech and he organized troops to go and inspect the area where the incident happened,” he said.

Brigadier Santo Domic, Deputy SSPDF spokesperson said the attack by Misseriya on SSPDF base was a very issue.

“It is true that Misseriya attacked a military base called Kur in northern part Twic County at around 4 PM yesterday and they were able to kill six of our soldiers and burn the camp into ashes,” Domic told Sudans Post.

Domic portrayed the attack as violation of territorial integrity of African’s youngest nation.

“This is a very serious violation of territorial integrity of the Republic of South Sudan by Sudan. This one will be addressed at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation plus the principles of the country because this is a very serious attack,” he said.
