The training was conducted by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) police department in Rubkona, Unity State.
Colonel Peter Ruaichar Thuok, head of the Unity State Rubkona County Criminal Investigation Department, expressed his gratitude to UNMISS for providing the opportunity to enhance the skills of police officers in the area.
“This is a wonderful training we have ever received as Unity State police personnel,” Colonel Thuok stated told Sudans Post after the closing session of the training on Tuesday. “The training enabled us to identify criminal cases, understand the difference between civil and criminal offenses, and learn about criminal investigation techniques.”
He further explained that the training covered various aspects of criminal investigation, including scene of crime management, protection of civilians, and the rule of law.
Additionally, the officers were trained on human rights, the prohibition of torture, and the proper use of force by police.
“In the two-day training, we were also trained about human rights, prohibition of torture and police use of force and also observation of human rights violation in custody,” he said.
Simon Lam Chuoth, UNMISS police department liaison assistance officer, reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNP) in enhancing its capacity to investigate and handle criminal cases.
“We will continue to train SSNP officers to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively investigate crimes and protect the rights of citizens,” Chuoth stated.
