RUMBEK – Eight cattle were stolen, and the herder was attacked and mutilated in a raid in Cueibet County of Lakes State.

The victim was traveling from Tonj when assailants, reportedly from Warrap State, intercepted him between Gok Machar and Ror-Colahol.

This is according to Lakes State police spokesman who talked to Sudans Post following the incident.

“A civilian who is coming from Tonj to Rumbek was driving 8 herds of cattle and upon his arrival to place between Gok Machar and Ror-Colahol area he was intercepted by criminals, captured him and cut off his two ears and took 8 cattle were raided,” he said.

According to Makuac, the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at Cueibet County hospital, and expressed frustration and emphasized the need for increased security.

“In fact, it is very challenging, and I think this triangle we need a different mechanism such that to calm down all these criminal activities that took place along the border of Warrap with Lakes, and Lakes State with Unity State,” he said, outlining potential solutions.

“To my opinion, it needs joint forces and outpost forces need to be established along the borders such that they can take charge of the security along the border.

“Also, it needs an increase of out forces along the highway roads… such that if there is any criminal attempt to disturb the road users, immediately it can be detected… and arrested. This is the only solution that can bring peace within this route or exit,” he added.

Makuac also called for a collaborative effort, saying that “At the same time, also it will be a plan of the government to convene a triangle conference such that they can be able to reach some of the resolutions that can be implemented towards security maintenance.”
