Lakes State Police spokesperson, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, confirmed the accident to Sudans Post .
He stated that two vehicles, a passenger car from Aweil heading to Juba and a fuel tanker from Juba to Wau, collided near Pabur.
“The collision resulted in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to ten others,” Makuac stated.
He further explained that the passenger car carried a total of 18 people, including 15 adults and 3 children.
“Of these, 10 survived with serious injuries and are currently being treated at Yirol West Hospital. Unfortunately, 8 passengers died on the spot,” he added.
Makuac said police are working to identify the victims. “We have managed to identify seven individuals by name,” he said. “However, one child and his mother, who also perished in the accident, remain unidentified. Additionally, one severely injured child, approximately 9 years old, is unable to speak and remains in critical condition at Yirol Hospital. His mother also passed away in the accident, and unfortunately, we have yet to receive his name.”
He emphasized that the drivers of both vehicles were commercial operators. The passenger car belonged to the Trinity Commercial Company, while the fuel tanker, carrying approximately 30,000 liters, belonged to Bright Star Company.
“The owner of the tanker is yet to be identified, and we are investigating further,” Makuac stated, adding that the tanker driver was apprehended by Yirol West County police, while the deceased passenger car driver’s body was released to his relatives for burial.
Makuac offered condolences to the families of the victims and urged anyone with information about the unidentified individuals to come forward.
He also appealed to drivers to exercise caution, especially on dusty and poorly maintained roads.
