
JUBA – Armed criminals have released nine (9) people who were abducted near South Sudan’s capital Juba on Tuesday, according to a member of parliament.
On Tuesday, Philip Ladu Jembeke, lawmaker representing Terekeka County in the yet to be reconstituted parliament said the nine travelers were hijacked on their way to Terekeka — 48 KM from the capital Juba — on Tuesday.
He told Sudans Post that the kidnappers were demanding at least 45 millions South Sudanese Pounds for the release of the nine people.
“Today I received I called from the head of cattle camp who told me that two young men who were travelling to Terekeka this evening fall into an ambushed and they were abducted,” he said Tuesday.
On Friday, Philip who is also the Chairperson of the Impact Response Committee, a group tasked with identifying the root causes of conflict among the Mundari community, said the kidnappers have released the abductees.
“I was called late evening that these men were all released. They are now at Jebel Ladu commando garrison. Up now we are waiting for these young men to tell us whether they know the abductors,” the lawmaker was quoted by Eye Radio as saying.
