JUBA – A South Sudanese activist has urged President Salva Kiir to set up a committee to probe the recent attack in Western Bahr el Ghazal state.
At least three civilians and a soldier were killed in the recent attack on Achoum-Choum area of Jur River County in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state.
Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), also called for the establishment of a committee to urgently implement the presidential order on conflict resolution in all the affected regions.
“CEPO strongly condemns the violation of the presidential order on conflict resolution by the recent violent attacks on Anyiel Kuac Boma, of Twic Mayardit county and the killing of three civilians and a solider in an attack on Achoum-Choum area of Jur River county in Western Bahr el Ghazal state,” the activist said in a statement extended to Sudans Post on Sunday.
“These acts demonstrate clear attitudes of undermining and lack of adherence with presidential order. These practices are getting common like how presidential order on return of cattle was undermined till it died a natural death,” he added.
The activist further said all leaders of the armed groups in the conflicting communities be informed and given tasks to observe the presidential order.
He warned that these pockets of deadly communal violence pose a real threat to efforts to hold the proposed national general elections due in December 2024.
“It is high time that state governments and local government institutions are empowered to proactively engage in mitigation and prevention of deadly communal violence. Spread out of pockets of deadly communal violence across the country is increasing in the eye of the political leadership,” Yakani stressed
Meanwhile, the activist said his organization will soon declare the panel of national mediators for mitigation of the deadly spate of violence at community level and people of goodwill would be ready to support the panel of mediators.
