AWEIL – More than 40 inmates at Aweil Central prison received clothes donated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church located in Aweil town over the weekend.
The donation was as part of the church’s mission to support the needy people.
Speaking to Sudans Post, Pastor Akoon Tem said 44 men and women were aided.
He cited a Bible scripture which talks of being sympathetic to those in dire need.
“We have provided 44 inmates with clothes of different kinds and this is because Jesus said that visit those who are incarcerated, nurse the sick. So for us as preachers, we could not just embark on doing the evangelization without getting practical with what the Bible says”, said Akoon.
Achol Majak Anei, an inmate, lauded the Adventist Church for the support given.
She, however, urged the church to extend the support to those in the county cells.
The prison director, Tong Duang acknowledged the support extended by the Adventist Church, saying such services could help heal the trauma inmates face.
Similar support was last year extended by the UN Mission in South Sudan, he said.
Many prisons in South Sudan are overcrowded making inmates prone to diseases.
