KHARTOUM, NOV. 1, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan Gen. Abdelfattah Al-Burhan has accused the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of continuing attacks against the army to gain political advantages at the ongoing negotiation in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Burhan who is also the head of the embattled Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) made the comments during an address at Wadi Seedna military base in Omdurman where he visited troops upon return to Khartoum from Port Sudan.
The de facto Sudanese leader raised questions about what he said is a continue RSF ‘aggression’ in Darfur and the capital Khartoum and said that these actions by the RSF is mean to gain political advantages at the talks facilitated by the United States and Saudi Arabia in Jeddah.
“The enemy does not want to stop,” Al-Burhan said. “Why? Because of the negotiations? We don’t even want negotiations.”
The army general further accused anti-war Sudanese politicians of pretending to be caring for the country and want to destroy the army. He vowed to fight what he called and ‘external aggression against Sudan’ to the last man standing within the SAF.
“People now, the enemies embedding inside us as Sudanese. They pretend to be carrying for the country,” he said.
“The politicians who now want to destroy the army, we tell them that the army even if only one soldier remains, we will still be proud because our people stand with us. The forces who are here have the full freedom to go forward,” Al-Burhan added.
The RSF this week advanced in an unprecedented gear against the Sudanese army, capturing the 16th army division headquarters in Nyala, South Darfur, and wounding its commander. They also captured the 21st army division in Geneina and killed its commander.
Before going to Khartoum, Al-Burhan visited the 16th infantry division commander who had been evacuated to Dongola after being wounded during Nyala clashes.
Ceasefire talks are currently taking place in Saudi Arabia’s costal city of Jeddah and are being facilitated by the government of the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The talks are aimed at a ceasefire that would allow delivery of humanitarian aid and civilians suffering.
