Al-Burhan heads to New York for annual UN summit

The military leader of Sudan General Abdelfattah Al-Burhan traveled on Tuesday to New York to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

PORT SUDAN, SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The military leader of Sudan General Abdelfattah Al-Burhan traveled on Tuesday to New York to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

This is Al-Burhan’s first visit to the United States since last year, and he is expected to address the world body on the ongoing conflict in Sudan, where the military is battling the rebellious Rapid Support Forces.

Al-Burhan is accompanied by senior government officials, including Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadig.

He is expected to address the general assembly during the afternoon session on Wednesday.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit is also in New York.

It is his first visit to the US in about nine years, and he is expected to speak on his country and the ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan.
