KHARTOUM, JUNE 8, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Sudanese government announced on Wednesday that the country’s military leader General Abdelfattah Al-Burhan has replaced governors for the country’s two states of Northern Kordofan and Sennar.

In a statement, the Transitional Sovereign Council secretariat said the decision by Al-Burhan to remove Fadlallah Mohamed Ali Al-Tom and Ibrahim Al-Nour as governors of North Kordofan, and Sennar states, respectively, was proposed by the council of ministers.

The statement said that Al-Burhan also approved the appointment of Abdel Khaleq Abdellatif Malik as the new governor of North Kordofan state, and Tawfik Mohamed Ali Abdallah as the new governor of Sennar State.

The statement, as seen by Sudans Post, did not cite reasons for the changes.

Sudan has been in a deadly conflict since April 15 after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched attack on government and army positions in the capital Khartoum.

The fighting – which has spread to other parts of the country – has displaced millions of civilians, killed thousands, and destroyed important infrastructure.

The fighting has since continued as parties have not heeded to calls for genuine ceasefire.
