KHARTOUM, MAY 5, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – A senior Sudanese presidential envoy has said that elements of the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo who is better known as Hemedti have one last chance to be pardoned.
Ambassador Dafallah Alhaj, Special envoy of Sudan’s General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, told reporters during a press conference in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa that the Sudanese army will soon end the ongoing fighting.
“Shortly the government of Sudan is going to put an end to this rebellion. I assured them (Ethiopian authorities) that we are keen for stability the peace in the region. But more importantly,” he told journalists on Thursday in Addis Ababa.
“I explained that all authorities, countries, media should distinguish between the legal authority in Sudan and the rebels. These two should not be equated to each other,” the senior Sudanese diplomat further said.
Al Haj said that the Sudanese Army and government are ready to pardon anyone, including forces of the RSF on the condition that they put down their guns.
“The other rebellion, I would say, they are still raising up arms, fighting and they didn’t show any consent to heal or to give up. And we have announced more than one time that there is still a chance to pardon whoever is ready to put down arms,” he added.
Fighting begun in Sudan on April 15, after the RSF launched attack on several government positions in the capital Khartoum including the residence of Burhan. This sparked clashes in several parts of the city and also in other parts of the country.
The two sides have blamed each other for violation of ceasefires which are usually breached even before they could go into force.
