Budi County commissioner Akileo Mboya Peter Anyanga said the victim identified as Peter Lokuju who was in his 30s was killed at 10 PM on Sunday by unidentified gunmen while returning home from a lab where he was working.
“It is true that one medical personnel got killed. It was around 10 pm when he was moving from another area on his way home. That is when he met those criminals and they shot at him. This morning (Monday) we went to the scene and we found him dead,” Anyanga is quoted as saying.
“This is just criminality that happened at night because it does not happen during the day and now as a Government, we will investigate to identify the culprits. We will get all of them because the criminals are unknown, these are unknown people and we are pursuing them, and we will get all of them,” he promised.
The Budi County youth leader, Augustino Lopeyok, said the deceased had no problem with anybody before his death and called on the youths in Budi to find and expose the culprits so they face justice.
“He had no issue with anybody, even I have never seen him quarreling with anybody. We are trying to follow up on this issue to find out the culprits so that they can be brought to book,” Lopeyok said. “You know, sometimes people hide the information like if you know this is the killer, he is a wrongdoer and we hide him. It is not good. I am calling on the youth of Budi to make sure that these people are arrested and brought to book.”
Last month, a medical doctor was murdered in Unity state, and colleagues threatened to go on strike if those responsible are not found. This follows the killing of a nurse in April in Eastern Equatoria State.
