AWEIL, FEBRUARY 20th 2023 (SUDANS POST) – A Sudanese trader has been arrested by police authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state after allegedly raping two small girls, police said in a statement.

The man identified as Yasir Ismail, is an Imam in a local mosque in Mediria.

“On 16th February at 5 pm, the police received a call from the lady, name withheld, reporting that her 11-year-old daughter was defiled by their immediate neighbor at Mediria residential area in Aweil Town,” the police statement reads in part.

“The police rushed to the scene, and the child was taken to the hospital for a medical check. The defilement was confirmed, and the procedures for the arrest were met on time.”

Police said it caught a Sudanese trader red-handed with a minor in his room.

“In the process of his arrest, he was found inside the room with another girl of 14 years – another neighbor. It was later confirmed that he defiled the same girl he was found with on date 12 after he defiled the young girl on 11 years on date 11th “it said.

It said the case has been opened against him, and the investigation is in progress.

“Meaning, he defiled the girl of 11 years on date 11th February and on the following day, 12th February he defiled another girl of 14 years, the girl he was found with on date 16th, the day of his arrest.”

The police advised the general public to be attentive to their children, and not to leave them unattended.

Last year, a 5-year-old child was raped, killed, and dumped in a pit latrine in Aweil town by a Sudanese trader.
