The victim has been identified as Abany Yor Kiir, while the suspect, who also lives in the same locality, was named as Abuk Deng.
Garang Lual, the youth chairperson in the area, described the incident as “despicable,” noting that it stemmed from a family dispute between the two women. He said Abuk stabbed Abany in the stomach, killing her instantly. The deceased, he added, left behind a baby she had been breastfeeding.
“The woman identified as Abuk Deng stabbed Abany Yor Kiir on Thursday morning, and she died immediately. This shocked everyone in the community. Both women are wives of a wounded veteran, Majoth Kiir,” Lual explained.
He further said the victim was buried at her home while the suspect was taken to Wanyjok, the county headquarters, where she is being held in custody as investigations continue. According to Lual, the suspect will soon appear in court. The deceased leaves behind a one-and-a-half-year-old child.
Madhol Payam administrator, Akech Tong, also confirmed the killing, stating that the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. He said the suspect lured the deceased out of her house by pretending to seek a discussion and then stabbed her at the doorway.
“Yes, it is true. The deceased, named Abany Yor Kiir, was killed in Rum-rol on Thursday night. She died on the spot,” Tong said. “We immediately dispatched police forces to calm the situation, and the suspect is now under investigation in Wanyjok.”
The administrator urged the public to respect the rule of law instead of resorting to personal revenge.
Authorities have raised concerns over the rising number of domestic killings, particularly among married couples, which they attribute to the hardships facing many families in the country. They encourage community members to seek lawful ways of resolving grievances rather than resorting to violence.
