AWEIL – Police in Aweil Town, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, have arrested 21 young men for allegedly stealing and dealing marijuana.
Speaking to Sudans Post on Friday, Northern Bahr el Ghazal Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Philip Madut Tong said the suspects will be sent to court.
He added that they were apprehended through coordinated efforts by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers.
“We apprehended these young men through the work of the CIDs, as we previously stated that no one is allowed to sell weed or bongo [marijuana] as it fuels crime in the state,” Madut said.
“Some of these individuals are young men who could be contributing productively to their families, but instead they are terrorizing the community,” he added.
“Additionally, some individuals have stolen items like solar panels, which is another serious offense. Cases have been filed against them,” he continued.
Tong emphasized their efforts to improve security conditions in the state, following recent incidents of abduction, including the kidnapping and murder of a wildlife officer last week.
He also revealed that a South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) soldier is among the suspects, apprehended for allegedly intimidating citizens with a firearm at night.
The state police chief reiterated that everyone is subject to the law, and the suspects will face justice in court.
