JUBA – Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have launched an investigation into the death of an unidentified man whose decomposing body was discovered behind rice warehouses at the Ministry of Agriculture in Aweil.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Wednesday in his office, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Police Commissioner Gen. Thomas Wani said the body, found on Monday, had likely been lying at the site for two to three days.

“We were tipped off about a decomposing body behind the rice stores. The circumstances of the man’s death remain unclear, and we are investigating further,” Wani said.

Police recovered 5,000 South Sudanese pounds (SSP) from the man’s pocket, and a post-mortem examination is underway to determine the cause of death.

The incident comes shortly after a separate case in Maduany, where an elderly man was killed during the festive season, reportedly by a group of youths.

In another development, Wani said police detained eight women following a brawl during Christmas celebrations in Nyalath Payam, Aweil Center County.

“Their case has been referred to the attorney’s office for further legal action,” he added.
