JUBA – A woman in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state’s capital Aweil has been arrested by authorities there after beating her own daughter to death, according to Aweil Center’s County Commissioner.

The woman identified as Adut Miir Agoth, Peter Natali  said, took the fatal measure against her daughter identified as 12-year-old Aker Malith Apet after accusing her of stealing household items.

“This child was killed in the area called Dormuon in Aweil Center County. What happened is this, the mother of the 12-years-old girl, beat her to death. I heard that the child used to steal properties at home,” Natali said, according to Radio Tamazuj.

The top county government official further said he then directed security forces to arrest the woman and take the girl to Aweil Civil Hospital while starting legal procedures against the woman.

“So I directed the security forces yesterday and the body was taken to Aweil Civil Hospital and the mother was arrested and the legal procedures are taking place in Aweil at the moment,’’ Natali said.

Separately, Radio Tamazuj quoted state police spokesman Captain Guot Got Akol as confirming the incident and also revealing the arrest of a separate person linked to the death of the girl.
