BOR – The governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei state, Dennay Jock Chagor has called on citizens to be vigilant as this year’s dry season approaches.

He was speaking to a gathering that welcomed him in the capital, Bor last week.

The call came in the wake of several reported attacks and cattle raids in the state.

Chagor described Jonglei, one of the largest states, as a peace-loving province.

“There are some good Murle people who want peace just as we do, but those in bushes are criminals. If we find anybody in the bushes of Jonglei state, we will not forgive or be tolerant,” he remarked.

Recently, over 20 people were killed and several cattle stolen in Poktap boma.

Chagor said efforts towards attaining peace with his counterpart from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) have, unfortunately, been fruitless.

“We are more than them, if we engaged in violence like they [GPAA] do, they would not survive. We are South Sudanese and violence does not help,” he said.

Several state ministers, members of Jonglei state assembly, heads of the organized forces, government officials as well as citizens welcomed the governor.
