CAIRO – The Bentiu Community Association in the Arab Republic of Egypt has elected a new chairperson and a secretary-general in an election in which at least two candidates competed for the position of the chairperson.
James Maker Gai and Tor Madira Machier were elected unanimously as the Chairman and the Secretary – respectively – of the Bentiu Community in the Arab Republic of Egypt in an elections which took place in Cairo last week.
Mewar Kai Lam, the chairperson of the Council, was re-elected into his position.
Speaking during the elections which were conducted last weekend, Maker called for unity and urged members of Unity state in Egypt to come together and put away political affiliations and come as one family.
“There is a need for us to come together as one family. Bentiu is not a political organization and because of that there is need that we come together and do what we can do for our people whether here in Egypt or in South Sudan,” he said.
For his part, the Secretary-General Tor Machier said “the community has suffered for so long as results of the political infighting between the Nuer politicians. To get rid of his suffering, we must stand as Bentiu community children and not as SPLM-IO, or SPLM-IG.”
I really appreciate the step taken by Bentiu community for their peaceful election that they did.
