JUBA – Authorities in South Sudan’s Warrap state are reporting that dozens of civilians have been in killed in a fresh round of intercommunal fighting in, Marial, a village in the Greater Tonj of the restive state.

The fighting, officials are reporting, is said to have broken out yesterday and is reportedly still ongoing between communities of Lou Paher and Luanyjang who are bitter rivals in the Tonj conflict.

“Today, they resumed fighting, but I haven’t got full information. The fighting is between Tonj East and Tonj North counties,” Ring Deng, the state minister of information for Warrap state has told the Eye Radio.

Based on United Nations report, subnational conflicts have killed hundreds of thousands of civilians since the beginning of 2021. Yesterday, a top United States diplomat in South Sudan said politicians are fueling the intercommunal conflict for political gains.
