JUBA – South Sudan’s director of Internal Security Bureau (ISB) at the National Security Service (NSS) General Akol Koor Kuc has been put under house arrest, several security sources with direct knowledge have told Sudans Post this afternoon.
According to the first source at the Blue House in Juba, General Akol Koor was put under house arrest following his failed attempt to travel to Awul village in Tonj North County last week by members of the Presidential Guards.
“General Akol Koor has been put under house arrest. As a security officer, I am informing you that this happened last week when he was presented to go to Tonj North County in Awul village,” the security sources who strongly rejected to be named said from Juba.
Another source said Akol Koor’s house in Juba one was being guarded by two tanks belonging to the Presidential Guards also known as Tiger Battalion. He said he has been told to remain until President Salva Kiir Mayardit decides his fate.
Separately, another security official said consultations were underway and that recommendations have been made to appoint General Marial Chinuong as the new director of ISB.
Another security source also said “President Salva Kiir Mayardit is headed for wider reforms in the security service and may also replace General Duoth Guet as head of external security in the NSS.”
