KHARTOUM – South Sudan veteran army commander and holdout opposition leader General Gordon Koang Chuol has declared in a statement extended to Sudans Post his allegiance to holdout SPLM/SPLA (IO) leader Duer Tut Duer saying the ongoing peace implementation will not take South Sudan anywhere.

“We, the forces of South Sudan (revolutionaries), led by First Lieutenant-General Gordon Kong Chuol Kulang announce to the whole world, the African Union, the IGAD countries and the international organizations that sponsor peace in the world’s youngest country, our support for the movement led by chairman Duer Tut Duer,” the General Gordon Koang said in the statement extended to Sudans Post.

The veteran opposition leader cited “The lack of seriousness in implementing the peace agreement signed since 2015 between President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, with his deputy, Dr. Riek Machar.”

He said South Sudan’s opposition movements have failed to remove the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, from power because First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been only aimed for power which he said has jeopardized the opposition efforts to remove Mr. Kiir whom he accused of killing innocent children from power.

“Since the beginning of the civil war on 12/15/2013, we have been thinking of fighting to change the administration of the collapsed and destroyed state of South Sudan, but we have withdrawn from that because Dr. Riek Machar was only aiming to be Vice President of Salva Kiir Mayardit,” the statement reads in part.
