DAMAZIN – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have regained control of the strategic town of Kurmuk in Blue Nile State following intense clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), multiple security sources told Sudans Post on Wednesday.

The sources said army units advanced southward into the border town from the Sali area along the road linking Kurmuk to Damazin, securing key positions after RSF fighters withdrew from the area following the battles.

The recapture of Kurmuk, located near Sudan’s border with Ethiopia, marks a major setback for the paramilitary group’s attempts to expand its presence and push deeper into central Sudan from the country’s southeastern frontier.

“We can confirm that Kurmuk is now under the full control of the Sudanese army. Our forces have entered the town and are securing the surrounding areas after the RSF withdrawal,” one security source told Sudans Post.
