JUBA – The family of detained businessman Thalage Wal Goch has announced that the businessman who was detained earlier this week following dispute with First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been released from jail and has been rushed to a private hospital in Juba after he contracted sicknesses inside the jail.

On Tuesday, Thalage was detained over debt row with First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, according to his family who asserted that the businessman was arrested by security operatives acting on orders of Mr. Machar after he filed a lawsuit to get an alleged loan back from the First Vice President.

Puok Both Baluang, the Acting Press Secretary at the Office of the First Vice President and SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations confirmed to Sudans Post also that Machar’s office is behind the detention the businessman who is also a former SPLM-IO member.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, Nissi, Thalage’s daughter, said her father has been released following a sixty-hour detention. She said her father has been sick since his release and has now been hospitalized in a local hospital in the capital Juba.

“Our father’s Thalage Wal Goch is released from prison, but rushed to the hospital in Juba because he is in a critical health condition after spending 60 hours in prison cell without eating or showering” she said.

She said the businessman has contracted, as result of the detention, diarrhea as well as flu-like symptoms.

“Now, he is suffering from diarrhea, vomiting, fever, dizziness, dehydration and flu. He contracted all these diseases inside the prison. He was unlawful and arbitrary arrested by order from Dr Machar Teny, 1st Vice President of Republic of South Sudan,” she said.
