In the statement, the group calling itself “Suppliers” said they have been engaging with the head of the NTC, Tut Gatluak Manimeh, who doubles as the presidential advisor on security affairs, but have been ignored in recent months.
“The leadership of suppliers regrets to announce their intention to hold peaceful protests at the office of Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime; The Chairman to National Transitional Committee (NTC) on Tuesday, 19th July 2022,” the statement signed by the group’s head, Dak Panyang, reads in part.
“It should be noted that the suppliers have been engaging with the office of the chairman for the last three (3) years with regards to their payment with no fruition,” the statement added.
The businessmen who have supplied government cantonment sites with food and medicines said they met Gatluak last April and promised to pay their dues within three weeks, but decided to deploy troops outside his office in an attempt to prevent them from meeting him after the time elapsed.
“In a meeting held in his office, dated 6th April 2022, he pledged to partially pay the suppliers within three weeks effective from the date of the meeting. When the three weeks elapsed, the Chairman decided to deploy armed security men at the gate of his office,” they said.
While vowing not to be intimidated, the group said it will stage a sit-in with their families in front of Gatluak’s office and won’t leave until when all their grievances are addressed by Gatluak’s office.
“The suppliers have therefore decided together with their families and employees to camp at the office of the Chairman until their grievances are attended tom,” they said.
“We have vowed never to be intimidated by any force whatsoever in the quest to have our arrears paid,” they added.
