JUBA – The Egyptian government has offered 400 scholarships to South Sudanese students to study in its various Egyptian universities and higher institutes, South Sudan information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth, said on Friday.
According to Makuei who is also the government spokesman, the Egyptian offer was announced by Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga during a regular cabinet meeting held in Juba on Friday.
A high-level delegation led by Igga visited the Egyptian capital Cairo in July and signed with the Egyptian government a number of protocols including the offering of South Sudanese students chances to study at different Egyptian university.
“Dr. James Wani Igga had multiply meetings with the Egyptian’s government on issues to do with economic cooperation and bilateral relations between the government of South Sudan and Egypt,” Makuei told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Friday.
“The Egyptians have accepted to sponsor 400 students in the Egyptian’s universities, full scholarships or fully funded by the Egyptian government,” Makuei added.
The senior government official disclosed that the Egyptian government is planning to established diplomatic institutions in Juba to boost diplomatic ties between the two sisterly countries.
“The visit was good and a Memorandum of Article on Associations was signed and these agreements were pending implementations. It is from now that every ministry will have to follow up and implement its part of the agreement,” he said.
