Canada replaces its ambassador to South Sudan

The Canadian government on Tuesday afternoon announced that it is replacing its ambassador to South Sudan.

JUBA, JULY 5, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Canadian government on Tuesday afternoon announced that it is replacing its ambassador to South Sudan.

In a statement, Canada’s foreign ministry said Minister Mélanie Joly has appointed Aly-Khan Rajani as its new ambassador to South Sudan to replace Jenny Hill who was appointed in 2020 to replace Ambassador Douglas Scott Proudfoot.

Scott had served as Canada’s ambassador to South Sudan from 2019.

In a statement welcoming his appointment, Rajani said that he was “honoured” to be serving as Canada’s ambassador to South Sudan.

Rajani said he is keen to work on “the many common priorities of the two countries, including peace and security, humanitarian and development programming, and strengthening trade and people-to-people linkages.”

Rajani’s appointment comes at a time when South Sudan is facing a number of challenges, including a fragile peace process, a humanitarian crisis, and economic instability.

Rajani will also be expected to provide support to South Sudan’s unity government on the country’s transition process will take up his new position in the coming weeks.
