JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday dismissed the Central Bank boss Dier Tong Ngor after differences with the country’s army chief, Gen. Gabriel Jok Riak, an official said.
The senior government official working in the Central Bank said Ngor was removed after he refused a request by the army chief to pay $1 million dollar to recently defected SPLA-IO commander Ochan Puot.
“The governor of Central Bank was removed because he refused a request in October by the army chief to pay one million USD to Gen. Ochan [Puot],” he said.
“Despite paying at first, he was eventually removed yesterday after Gen. Jok complained to the president in December over the issue,” the official who don’t want to be named said.
Ngor who has been the Central Bank governor since May 2018 he was replaced with Jamal Abdalla Wani in a Decree read on the state TV.
The decree did not give any reason for Ngor’s sacking.
