BENTIU – The governor of South Sudan’s central bank James Alic Garang arrived on Wednesday in Unity State’s capital Bentiu to assess plans for launch of the establishment of a central bank branch in Bentiu.
Speaking upon his arrival at Rubkona airport, Alic said the move is part of a central bank broader strategy to expand financial access across the country, as outlined in the Bank of South Sudan Act of 2011.
“We are committed to expanding our reach and providing essential financial services to all South Sudanese citizens,” Garang said.
“This new branch will play a crucial role in promoting economic development and financial inclusion in Unity State,” he added.
The new branch, which will be built on a 200 by 120 square meter plot of land, is expected to offer a range of services, including deposits, loans, and foreign exchange. It will also provide advisory services to the state government.
“This is a significant step forward for Unity State,” said Tor Tungwar Kueiguong, the state’s deputy governor who welcomed the central bank chief. “The new bank branch will boost economic activity and create jobs.”
