JUBA – The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) announced on Wednesday the issuance of new 1,000-pound notes with an updated name: “South Sudan Pound,” replacing the previous “South Sudanese Pound.”
Governor Dr. James Alic Garang said in a statement the change aligns with the amended Banking Act 2012 and Bank of South Sudan Act 2023.
“The Bank of South Sudan informs the public that it has issued a new series of 1,000 South Sudan pound banknotes,” Garang said. “This issuance complies with the amended Banking Act 2012 and Bank of South Sudan Act 2023.”
Garang clarified that the new notes retain the same design features as the previous 1,000-pound notes, with the sole difference being the updated currency name. “All other specifications remain unchanged,” he added.
The governor urged both financial and non-financial institutions to acknowledge the change.
Background: The Transitional National Legislative Assembly passed the Banking and Other Financial Institutions Amendment Bill 2023 on September 26, 2023.
This bill replaced the “South Sudanese Pound” with the new “South Sudan Pound.”
The stated purpose of the change was to strengthen South Sudan’s national identity and establish a unique currency for the country.
according to me the government has to come with fixed price for dollars for eg in Central Bank should be 50000ssp,than commercial banks at 55000ssp ,forex 60000and black markets at 65000ssp that could good measures and one find selling beyond this will be arrested this could be better and raduce inflation in the country.
