JUBA – The Central Equatoria State Ministry of Trade and Industry, in partnership with the Central Equatoria Business Union (CEBU), launched a project on Tuesday to enhance the business skills of 200 local traders.
The one-year project, titled “The Business Management and Economic Development for Effective Training Skills,” aims to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Under the theme “towards strengthening human capital for socio-economic growth,” the project will equip local entrepreneurs with essential skills and knowledge to improve their trading capabilities.
Traders from all six counties of the state will receive practical insights and strategies to succeed in the market.
Wani Tom Sebit, the State Minister of Trade and Industry, told the media that the project will boost the skills of 200 young entrepreneurs, who will receive between 1 and 5 million South Sudanese Pounds in the first phase to support their businesses.
Tom added that the second phase will target 100 young entrepreneurs with a capital of 100 million South Sudanese Pounds.
“This project is in line with the vision of the state governor, Augustino Jadalla, of wealth creation through agriculture and cooperative societies. People are encouraged to work in groups to compete in the market,” said Tom.
“This will address the gaps, and for you to compete, it’s good that you take the vision of His Excellency the Governor of doing things in groups. When you are in a group, you will have strength, but when you are alone, you will be weak,” he added.
Tom emphasized the state government’s commitment to boosting businesses and economic development.
Thomas Muto Lu’buda, the Patron of CEBU and Consultant of Juba Special Economic Zone, explained that the project aims to enable SMEs to compete effectively in the market.
“For us to be effective in the market, we need business skills, and Central Equatoria Business Union, as a trade member organization, in partnership with the state government, has initiated a capacity-building project that will empower startups with skills in record-keeping, communication, and market competition strategies,” said Muto.
