JUBA — The government of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State has announced that its minister of local government has been directed to name one of the streets in Kajo-Keji County to name a street after artist Murye Alex Henry who is known for his stage name ‘Mantani’ following his demise in Kampala, Uganda, after a car accident.
The announcement was made by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony during a speech to mourners in Juba on Tuesday afternoon. Anthony also said that Mantani’s demise “is a big blow to central Equatoria State and South Sudan Music industry at large,” according to a statement by the government.
Governor Anthony went on to describe the popular musician as “a gifted artist who mentored and cultivated the talents of many sons and daughters across the nation and particularly in Central Equatoria state.”
“It was a blessing for us as people of Central Equatoria state and South Sudan as whole to have had such a gifted artist who pledged a big role in promoting the South Sudan brand of music to other heights. Indeed we will be missing his educative music which was unique in many aspects,” the governor stated.
“He was a quite courageous artist who used his artistic talents to implore those in authority to fulfill their mandate by heeding to the voice of the masses.”
Governor Anthony further directed the state Minister of Local Government and law enforcement agency, Moro Isaac Genesio, to effect naming of a street in Kajo-Keji County in memory of the late musician “for his overwhelming contribution in various aspects.”
