In a statement extended to Sudans Post yesterday, Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO, emphasized the critical role of citizens in securing a successful political transition.
“As the country struggles to achieve a genuine political transitional process, it is imperative that citizens take a proactive role in civic engagement to promote peace and prevent violence in all its forms,” Yakani said.
The campaign is designed to encourage citizens to sustain the progress made so far and actively engage in addressing political instability.
Yakani highlighted the importance of a citizen-centered approach to the transitional process, saying, “The National Gathering for Peace and Trust will be a platform for citizens to drive the political transition process by ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.”
Yakani also pointed out the need for improved and motivated citizen consultation to effectively tackle the challenges of the political transition.
“The absence of proactive citizens’ consultative dialogue in fixing the political transitional process needs to be addressed. It is crucial that citizens are motivated to take a proactive role in shaping the future of our country,” he stressed.
