JUBA, JULY 7, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmund Yakani has welcomed yesterday’s presidency directives  for immediate deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit in a meeting with First Vice President Riek Machar and other vice-presidents discussed the status of the revitalized peace agreement’s implementation status and directed for immediate deployment of peace forces.

“The presidency has the primary responsibility for the genuine implementation of the political transitional process as enshrined in the various chapters of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS),” Yakani said.

The prominent activist further urged the presidency “to regain its political commitment and discipline for a genuine political transitional process.”

Yakani also welcomed the presidency’s call for immediate deployment of peace forces and investigation into the killing of civilians in Wunkur county pf the Ruweng Administrative Area as well as “the recent killing in the suburbs of Juba.”

“The presidency will be the primary national entity to be blamed if the political transitional process fails or falls below expectations,” he added.

The prominent activist further called on the presidency to “act on the reconstruction of the National Elections Commission, Political Parties Council, and National Constitutional Review Commission as a gift for Independence Day on July 9, 2023.”

“CEPO will be closely monitoring the implementation of the presidency’s decisions,” it added, pointing out that it “hopes that the decisions will be timely enforced and that they will lead to a genuine political transitional process in South Sudan.”
