JUBA – South Sudan information minister and government spokesman Michael Makuei Lueth has said changes in the country’s currency will not include the name.

“Well the change will not include the name. The government will only change some features in the pounds,” Makuei told Sudans Post from Juba this morning. “We are working on that and the final changes will be introduced soon.”

Last week, Makuei told reporters following a weekly cabinet meeting that the government has decided to change currency because citizens are hoarding their money at home without taking it to the bank which he said has contributed to the country’s economic downfall.

“So the cabinet has decided that the currency be changed. The currency should be changed so that anybody who does not take his money to the bank, is left out and will lose his money,” Makuei said last week.

South Sudan is in a serious economic crisis triggered by coronavirus pandemic, corruption and the global fall in oil prices.

A economic crisis management committee formed by President Kiir in August has recommended a number of reforms, but no improvement has so far been experienced.

This is like corona patuents changing face masks and leaving the virus un attended to. This new currency will inherit the same problems tge SSP is facing.
This pound needs peace and security resulting in investor confidence, lean and accountable government and finally investment in infrastructure – roads, power.

this change of local currency will not change anything in the economic of south sudan, so let the government and it partners to peace work hard to make the implementation of revitalized peace agreement, this is where peace and economic will prevail. the leaders has stolen the country monies and now they try to take the little money that the citizens have to survive. government love peace first and graduate the unified forces so that security will bring the stability in the economic too.

Change of local currency will not make any change in the economic of south Sudan, the only way for government to control dollars issues is to make sure everyone working in south Sudan have to be pay in SSP not dollars anymore because the more you have dollars you demand hight rate for exchange so you benefits from it.

Government have two ways of getting dollars into the country
    1. government donors
    2. NGOs

there are millions ways of dollars moving out of juba which are foreigners sending them out to theirs family so government have no control on how much you send per a year and they must be pounds not dollars

just one month you will not had about anymore only in the bank.
