Changson’s FDP faction dismisses 13 members over defection

On 28 November, Changkuoth Bichiok Reth, former party Secretary General deposed Gabriel Changson Chang from the chairmanship and declared himself the new party interim chairperson.

JUBA – The opposition Federal Democratic Party (FDP) led by minister for higher education, science and technology, Gabriel Changson Chang, on Wednesday dismissed 13 members who recently defected to a faction led by Changkuoth Bichiok Reth, former party Secretary General.

On 28 November, Changkuoth Bichiok Reth, former party Secretary General deposed Gabriel Changson Chang from the chairmanship and declared himself the new party interim chairperson.

Changson was expelled on 28 November 2024 from the party at a meeting of the National Leadership Council in Juba.

This followed the decision by Changson to oust Changkuoth Bichiok from his position on 3rd November.

Bichiok was accused by loyalists of Changson of insubordination, gross misconduct and sowing divisions within the party.

In a letter extended to Sudans Post on Wednesday, Gabriel Changson Chang, Chairperson of Federal Democratic Party said the membership of individuals was terminated after declaring their defection from the party on November 28th, 2024.

“The Federal Democratic Party (FDP) announces the termination of membership of the following individuals who declared their defection from the party on November 28th, 2024,” Changson said.

Changson said the decision was taken in accordance with Article 15 (2) of the FDP Constitution and other relevant provisions guiding party discipline and unity.

“While party appreciates the past contributions of the dismissed members, it cannot tolerate actions that undermine its objective and unity,” he said.

“The Federal Democratic Party remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding discipline and integrity, ensuring it continues to serve the people of South Sudan with dedication and honey.”

The members include Hon. William Obany, Hon. Suzan John Jock, Hon. Chabur Goc, Hon. Ayak Dut, Hon. Franco Germano Rachin and Hon. Changkuoth Wal Chuor.

Others include Mr. John Deng Chieng, Achuoth Ajang Arok, Kun Tim Deng, Malual Dhiew Malual, Deng Jing Deng, Elizabeth Atong Achiek and Both Gony Wur.
