YEI – A civil-military dialogue concluded in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State of with advocacy for peace among civilians and the army in Lasu payam.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) organized the event.

The county commissioner, Aggrey Cyrus said the three-day dialogue aimed at resolving pertinent differences between civilians and the military in Lasu.

John Malish Scopas, a project officer with CEPO, said the dialogue was organized to improve and strengthen the relationship between civilians and the military.

It aimed at attracting voluntary and peaceful return of refugees and internally displaced persons from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

The situation in Yei has been marked by escalating violence between military forces and civilians. The deteriorating relation between the two groups has led to significant challenges in maintaining peace and security.

The dialogue was organized by CEPO, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)-led consortium and support from the United Nations multi-partners for Reconciliation, Stabilization and Resilience Trust Fund (RSRTF).
