The Public Excellence Award, an annual initiative by Intrepid South Sudan, aims to motivate and appreciate leaders who provide exemplary service to the citizens of Jonglei State.
This year’s theme focused on resettlement and rebuilding livelihoods for internally displaced persons and returnees.
“The country generally is not delivering much to the citizens, and so we felt we want to encourage the current leaders who are leading us so that they can inspire those who will come before us,” said Bol Deng Bol, Executive Director of Intrepid South Sudan.
Bol praised the efforts of both awardees, stating, “As a human being, sometimes, you need to be told that you have done good, please keep it up, you will feel that at least your work is being recognized, there are people your work is reaching, so you will try to do more.”
Minister Chuol expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “Today, I’m very happy for this recognition from INTREPID South Sudan to recognize the last minister to be the best serving minister, thanks you for that, I never knew that I would get this recognition.”
He emphasized the importance of civil society organizations in holding leaders accountable.
“Civil Society organizations are doing great in Jonglei state, now we have her excellency Atong Kuol Manyang with the promotion or recognition you give here, she is a deputy governor, this is how people appreciate others,” Minister Chuol said.
Geetha Pious, head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, also acknowledged the efforts of the awardees.
