WAU – Newly appointed governor of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state has told thousands of residents of Wau town who turned out to welcomed her this afternoon that corruption – which has been blamed for the current lack of development in the state – was over.
Sarah Cleto Rial was pointed in June on the ticked of the SPLM-IO led by South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny as the governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal state. Machar also nominated two other SPLM-IO politicians one of whom has not been appointed.
Addressing the rally attended by thousands of residents in Wau this afternoon, Cleto said the age of corruption and lack of accountability were over and that the state would start a new page of peace and prosperity.
“The days of corruption are over. The days when our leaders walk away with our money and properties without accountability are over,” Cleto said.
“What we are seeking now is to live in peace. We are all South Sudanese and anything to do with our unity is paramount and need to be done until then we will be able to develop our country,” she added.
