JUBA, FEBRUARY 24th 2024 (SUDANS POST) – A local court in South Sudan’s capital Juba on Friday morning ordered South Supreme Airline to pay at least $170,000 (119 million SSP) each to victims of the 2021 Pieri plane crash.
In March 2021, a small aircraft (HK 4274) belonging to the local company crashed shortly after takeoff from an airstrip in Pieri town in Jonglei state, killing all 10 people on board, two crew members and eight passengers.
Victims’ families have since been seeking compensation.
Presiding Judge James Lado said the local company say the compensation to the victims’ families will amount to 952 million South Sudanese Pound ($1.4 million).
Lado also ordered the company to pay 10 percent of that money as a fine.
