JUBA – The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has revealed an intention to launch a substantial 5-year country strategy aimed at fortifying its humanitarian support in South Sudan.
This initiative, to be launched next Tuesday at Pyramid Hotel in Juba, seeks to build upon CRS’s extensive history of aiding South Sudanese communities since 1984.
CRS President and CEO, Sean Callahan, expressed optimism about the endeavor, citing the challenging yet opportune landscape in South Sudan.
“It is very exciting that in a moment like this, where we see the many challenges and opportunities that South Sudan faces,” he said.
“CRS is putting forth such an ambitious strategy, a reflection of our commitment and the trust that communities place in us. We look forward to expanding our partnerships and impact in the next five years,” he added.
CRS South Sudan Country Representative, Hopewell Zheke, emphasized the strategy’s role as a guiding framework.
“This strategy outlines our blueprint for the next 5 years,” noted Zheke, underlining the priorities and collaborative efforts envisioned to drive significant change.
“This strategy is our blueprint for the next 5 years which outlines our strategic priorities in support of the people of South Sudan,” he said.
“It highlights our plans and commitments to tackle challenges. Together with our partners and with support from our donors we will collaborate to achieve transformational change at scale,” he added.
Matt Davis, CRS’ Regional Director for the East Africa Regional Office, reflected on the resilience of South Sudanese communities, indicating the strategy’s reaffirmation of CRS’s lasting commitment to walking alongside those it serves.
“We are constantly inspired by the people of South Sudan – their resiliency, determination, and hope in spite of immense challenges,” he said. “We are so proud to walk alongside the communities we serve, and this strategy is a sign that our commitment endures.”
The impending launch event, set to convene key stakeholders including government officials, religious leaders, partner organizations, donors, and CRS staff, will serve as a platform to articulate CRS’s strategic priorities and commitments for South Sudan’s future.
With over 40 years of involvement in South Sudan and a substantial presence in the region, CRS stands poised to continue its mission of providing impartial support and assistance across various sectors of humanitarian and development aid.
